Sorcerer / Lack of News

There’s not much going on here in the Verge of Light world other than the fact that Lee is working away on the Diamond Cult / Theologian collab release.

However, I will share a little unrelated babbling with you… Last week I was on Xmas vacation and went used record shopping for the first time in ages. I actually managed to find a copy of Tangerine Dream’s Sorcerer Soundtrack LP. This is an absolutely fantastic score to an equally great film. If you’re unfamiliar, the (very well made) fan video above will give you an idea.

Sorcerer is a remake of the 1953 movie The Wages of Fear which is one of the better pre-1960 films I’ve ever seen (but I prefer the remake).

So, if you haven’t seen either film, I would strongly recommend you watch The Wages of Fear followed by Sorcerer and then get a copy of Tangerine Dream’s soundtrack. It’s not too hard to find on CD or LP.

Diamond Cult / Theologian Teaser MP3

Here’s a little snippet of one of my favorite tracks from my recent recording session (see previous post). This will probably be radically different after Lee / Theologian plays with it.

This track isn’t really indicative of how the upcoming release will sound. I recorded a wide variety of stuff – everything from clean guitar to harsh noise. Anyhow, enjoy.

Plotkinworks Recording Session

Yesterday James Plotkin (Jodis / Phantomsmasher / Khanate + much much more – pictured above) recorded a slew of my guitar and synth tracks for a future Diamond Cult collaboration release.

The results were heavy, noisy and weird as hell but in the best possible sense.

Here’s a couple of pics from the session…

We ran my guitar through James’ insanely heavy bass setup (above left). Walls shook, windows rattled. It was a lot of fun.

Several of my tracks were intended to be essentially guitar noise. With that in mind, James was kind enough to let me use his mind-warpingly bizarre little synth/effects box called “The Pox” (the little blue guy above). Sorry the photo isn’t more clear. James made this device himself and I have to admit I’ve never heard guitar get so wonderfully fucked up by an effect before. “The Pox” is a work of evil genius.

After all the guitar bits were done we tracked a bunch of stuff with my tried and true little DAED Feedback Synth.

So, what is to become of all these strange recordings? I am handing them over to my friend and experimental / noise artist Lee Bartow, to tweak as he will, for a Diamond Cult collaboration with his project Theologian (check it out on MySpace). There’s no deadline for this release so whenever Lee gets done doing his thing I will post an update.

Break Time

Led Er Est (again)

I’ve had Led Er Est‘s album Dust on Common on HEAVY rotation lately. Normally I get sick of new albums pretty quick. Not this one.

Sadly the LP is sold out (I got mine) but you can still get it on CD and through iTunes.

Either way, you REALLY should get this ASAP. Trust me. Dust on Common grew on my brain like a wonderful fungus.

Blade Runner Soundtrack (Off World 1993 Version)

Blade Runner has been one of my favorite films since I was a child. I have grown to love the music as much as the movie.

The strange thing is that a “definitive” version of the soundtrack has never been released. The closest official release is the 2007 Blade Runner Trilogy: 25th Anniversary three disc set. Well, I never even bothered buying that because of what is known as the 1993 “Off World” bootleg. Yeah, maybe the sound quality could be better but it’s BY FAR the most enjoyable version of the soundtrack I’ve heard yet. You can read all about the different versions here (scroll down to the top user review).

A few years before I was on the internet my buddy James got an original manufactured CD of this “Off World” version and I burned a CDR of it from that disc. But, just for you, I went and tracked down a 320 kbps MP3 download of this great album. How great? I’m talking, I-could-listen-to-this-every-day great. You can download it here. Enjoy.

Diamond Cult update

(POST UPDATED 11.6.11) You folks that signed up for the PRF Singles Club should have your records by now.

I received my copies and they are beautiful. The packaging / design AND sound / music quality are top notch. Well done PRF! Thank you for letting DIAMOND CULT be part of this amazing compilation.

Good news, The PRF Singles Club Vol. 1 album is now available as a digital release (as you can see above). You can stream the whole album for FREE and buy it in any format you want for just FIVE BUCKS. Nice eh?

Anyhow, here’s what’s on the horizon for DIAMOND CULT:

- The DIAMOND CULT / THEOLOGIAN collaboration release is in the works. More info on that once it’s all finished.

- I’m not ready for any DIAMOND CULT live performances as of right now. If that changes I will let you know.

- The DIAMOND CULT & FAILING LIGHTS tape is sold out. You can sometimes find a copy for sale here on discogs.com

- My debut digital EP “Human Machine” is no longer available for sale. If there’s any interest in these songs down the road I’m sure they’ll appear online somewhere.

- What else? Not much. I will be posting here and on the Facebook page from time to time and thinking about working on a new song or two when the urge hits me.
