please do not like my band on facebook

I was already getting a bit weirded out by recent changes at Facebook and then I read this article. So, that’s it for me.

I suppose Facebook still has it’s uses as a way to keep up with friends, Lil Bub, movie geekery, etc but I am not using a page to promote Diamond Cult any longer. Nor will I be getting onto Twitter or whatever the hell they come up with next.

What is the point of trying to win over new fans using social media for this kind of bizarro music anyhow? I figure the people who appreciate it will find this page and that’s good enough for me.

I will be deleting the DC Facebook Page soon. But to make myself feel as if it wasn’t a TOTAL waste of my time I put some of the more “valuable” links, etc from that page at the bottom of this post.

In other news: I have no solid plans of recording any new Diamond Cult material at the moment due to my other music / visual art work commitments. As soon as that changes I will post about it here. BUT, for those of you who appreciate your sounds a little more noisy I recently released this:

Thanks. -Jonathan

Old Links and Crap culled from the FB Page:

The Plasmatics on Solid Gold (video).

Vice goes to Wierd Records NYC 500th Weekly Party.

FACTRIX (essential) reissues on Superior Viaduct records.

Steven Stapleton talks about and plays selections from the NURSE WITH WOUND list.

Steve Albini talks about the 20th Anniversary of SHELLAC.

Hans Zimmer’s charity music tribute for the victims of the Aurora Batman Shootings.

A fantastic article about Krautrock producer Conny Plank.

Justin K. Broadrick’s mix of GODFLESH influences for Vice Italy. Free download.

The new ANATOMY OF HABIT LP / Download with graphic design by… me.

An EXPOLOITACULAR mix by my friend Isaac Williams titled “Hot Asphalt and Roaring Violence.” Free download.

You should really buy everything on Wierd Records.

Here’s one of the greatest movie trailers of all time. You’re welcome.

See the PENTAGRAM “Last Days Here” documentary dammit. It’s on streaming Netflix right now (link to trailer video).

Here’s a fine interview with one of my experimental music heroes – LUSTMORD.

Buy one of the strangest psych albums of all time, MODULO 1000′s “Não Fale Com Paredes.”

Brian Eno talks about weird instruments.

Here’s a very good (but slightly dated) interview with John Cale.

This is a really great piece on a long forgotten piece of electronic music history. Make sure to watch the video at the bottom of the article too…

Here’s an Animal Planet piece on Todd from SHELLAC’s dog Uffizi.

For the few of you that enjoy 80′s hardcore “punk” here’s a an obscure gem from Pusmort records – EXIT CONDITION. Free download.

Here’s a very good interview with CHRIS AND COSEY (ex-THROBBING GRISTLE).

What? You’ve never seen Stevie Wonder on drums? Watch this immediately.

Here’s an amazing clip of underwater Seal sounds from the film “Encounters at the End of the World.”

That should keep you busy for a while.

Nap Time

(L-R Dodd, Shamus and Mengie, doing what they do best. Photo by SQ)

There’s really not much going on with Diamond Cult these days so let’s just say it’s nap time.

Between my day job and my visual art I haven’t had time to dust off the guitar. I hope to do so someday soon.

Once there’s news on the Diamond Cult / Theologian collab tape, or anything else for that matter, I will post it here.

And of course I will post occasional nonsense over at the Facebook page.

Thanks. -Jonathan

Diamond Cult & Failing Lights – Digital Release

You may recall this tape release was a collaboration between myself and Mike Connelly (Wolf Eyes / Hair Police). It came out in 2010 and sold out pretty quick.

I just gave it a listen for the first time in ages and… it sounds allright. Allright enough that I just made it available as a “pay what you want” download over at my bandcamp page. I even threw in a bonus track. Exciting no?

Speaking of tapes, I recently heard a long excerpt of Lee Bartow’s Theologian + Diamond Cult mix and it sounded fantastic. Hopefully that release will see the light of day soon.

Finally…

UPDATE 9.26.12 – The Sound’s classic “From the Lion’s Mouth” AND the debut “Jeopardy” have been re-issued on CD and LP! It’s about damn time. You can get them from Midheaven Mailorder.

No news on the Diamond Cult front yet. I’ve been focusing on my visual art lately.

Well, here’s one little semi-related thing in case you missed it… I did a mix for the Soldier’s Disease blog. Check it out here.

Sorcerer / Lack of News

There’s not much going on here in the Verge of Light world other than the fact that Lee is working away on the Diamond Cult / Theologian collab release.

However, I will share a little unrelated babbling with you… Last week I was on Xmas vacation and went used record shopping for the first time in ages. I actually managed to find a copy of Tangerine Dream’s Sorcerer Soundtrack LP. This is an absolutely fantastic score to an equally great film. If you’re unfamiliar, the (very well made) fan video above will give you an idea.

Sorcerer is a remake of the 1953 movie The Wages of Fear which is one of the better pre-1960 films I’ve ever seen (but I prefer the remake).

So, if you haven’t seen either film, I would strongly recommend you watch The Wages of Fear followed by Sorcerer and then get a copy of Tangerine Dream’s soundtrack. It’s not too hard to find on CD or LP.

You can thank me later.

Diamond Cult / Theologian Teaser MP3

Here’s a little snippet of one of my favorite tracks from my recent recording session (see previous post). This will probably be radically different after Lee / Theologian plays with it.

Download here (320kbps MP3).

This track isn’t really indicative of how the upcoming release will sound. I recorded a wide variety of stuff – everything from clean guitar to harsh noise. Anyhow, enjoy.
